Question by Ellie Marieee :): I”m the only sane one in my family..?!? *ADOLESCENT*
Everyone in my family is insane. My mom wants to act like a child and embarss herself in public by standing on top of the food shelves in the asiles and laugh like a hyina (sp). My dad thinks its funny whenever my moma and i get into an argument and find it amusing rather than talking to me like a sensible dad. my sister has bad anger rpoblems and she is the most impatient person ever!!!
the only sane ones in the house is me and my little brothers who are only 4 and 7 but yah..i hate it. they’re so embarssing and odd. i love em but weird..how can i cope iwth this? its so embarssing when we go out in public, and i talk to them about ti but they never listen. i love em but embarssing!??

Have a family meeting, tell it to them straight up, tell then how hey make you feel, and things they can do, but keep it nice and smooth, try not to hurt anyone’s feelings, and reach a compromise.
but they will always be your family you just have to bear with it and go with the flow =] hope this helps.

BPD in adolescent/ pre-adolescent?
Question by ?some?wanna?know?: BPD in adolescent/ pre-adolescent?
Is there anyone out there with a child that is entering puberty with Borderline Personality Disorder?
Minimally, my daughter has Bipolar, I was curious to see if any other parents are dealing with this.
I am not into alot of “diagnoses” persay, I just wanted to take a poll of ones with concerns about their children & their concerns on this illness in particular.
I do know that the Dr.’s won’t touch a BPD diagnosis, because it is sooo similar to adolescence agnst anyways… Thanks in advance for your input.
We have determined that there has been no kind of abuse w/ my daughter, that is why this is so difficutl to handle right now.
I was aware that 30 % of people with Borderline Pers. Disorder are NOT abused, the rest are… so knowing it is strictly chemical imbalances is flipping me out. There is Bipolar in our family, my father & my brother & my daughter’s father,,, so we are not surprised that one of our children has it…
Oh, make sure that you are reading it right… she HAS Bipolar Disorder… I am now thinking she has something more serious, like one or two aspects of Borderline Personality Disorder. Much more complicated…
thanks for your answers.

Honestly, almost every pre/teenage girl I see could qualaify as having BPD.
Of course, it is very rare for a person under 18 to be dx with a personality disorder unless it is completely obvious and everything else can be ruled out.
I would look at the childs home enviroment. +90% of BPD patients have been sexually abused or have some sort of sexual trauma. Also often the childs parents are mentally ill along with a lot of boundary and attachment issues with the Mother.
If these are all met along with DSM criteria for BPD you have a strong predictor of the disorder.
Please know if you child is ever dx with BPD its not the end of the world. BPD patients can often do very well with a combination of meds and Dialectial Behavioral Therapy.
UPDATE: If she only has one or two characteristics of BPD please do not worry about it. When someone is Borderline it becomes quite obvious very quickly. Please work on your daugthers Bipolar, one thing at a time…when you start getting more broad you all may become overwhelmed!

rude awakening

I lived in Agra for 6 years. I spent my adolescent years there. I visited Agra in 2008 after abandoning it some 12 years ago. If you know me even slightly, you know my Agra stories. The british manson I grew up in. The school hooligan I was. The streets of sadar and bundukatra. After I spending 4 hours in the scorching heat, I could not fathom how I had spent 6 years of my life there — having such a great time and collecting such stories, which many of you have heard. I realized, I had forgotten to have fun.
I went to Agra with a lot of expectations. Agra for me meant Anger, Love, Abandonment, Loneliness. Spending hours on the rooftop reading Shakespear. Agra was about waking up. Starting to become who I am. Agra was about the Babre masjid riots. About how much I hated the Taj because someone or the other will visit us every month to see it. It was about sleeping on the couch in the hall.
While I was in Agra; I thought a lot. I thought about taking action. About how life is short, about how not too long ago I was cycling right there, about how I almost fell into the yamuna from the Taj.
Agra gave me merciless heat. Agra threw me out. It showed me that this is all there is and if I’m going to try to live my life like how I wanted it. I should go for it now.

Common Symptoms of Adolescent Depression
Common Symptoms of Adolescent Depression
Some Of The Common Symptoms Of Adolescent depression
There are certain telltale signs and symptoms that point in the direction of an adolescent having adolescent depression and these include changes in appetite, changes in sleep, loss of interest in favorite activities, irritableness as well as irrational response to frustration and finally, statements of despair.
Changes In Appetite
Changes in appetite are a sure sign of adolescent depression and are one of the key symptoms that an adolescent is becoming, or is already depressed. The change may be noticed in the form of eating too much, or eating too little, or even not eating at all for prolonged periods of time. It should not be mistaken for an eating disorder though sometimes such symptoms could develop into further pathological behaviors, especially if the patient starts to feel better following a change in diet.
Much like changes in diet, changes in sleep are also symptomatic of adolescent depression though the behavior varies from individual to individual. However, a drastic change in sleep behavior that does not have any rational reason behind such behavioral change is what one should be looking for.
There may also be a reduction in interest in activities that were previously favorites of the patient, and this is another common adolescent depression symptom that is noticeable in children. It is not the same as when a child outgrows his or her likes for a particular activity because he or she is not of an age for which such activity is appropriate. If a child loves a sport and during the middle of the season suddenly decides to abstain from taking part in that sport, then that is reason to be concerned and it could well be an adolescent depression condition.
Another big pointer to adolescent depression is when the teenager or child gets angry often, or happens to overreact to his or her own frustration. This may be more than adolescent defiance as there may be underlying depression, which manifests it in the form of anger of an irrational type. The depressed adolescent may take to banging the head against the wall, verbally hurling abuse and getting into fights at school.
If the adolescent also takes to making statements of despair, you can be sure that this is another symptom of adolescent depression, which can be especially disturbing to those close to the adolescent. You should try and communicate with such a depressed adolescent, and get him or her to discuss the writings, sayings as well as drawings, as it may help get the child or adolescent to get out of whatever is causing the depressed person to do and say such things.
