Taking Charge Of Your Health In Texas
Taking Charge Of Your Health In Texas
You’re a young, healthy individual who lives in Dallas, Houston or elsewhere in Texas, now’s the time to take charge of your health. Everything you do to, and take into, your body may come back to haunt you when you get older. So, it’s time to take some responsibility, become disciplined and take care of yourself, starting today!
You may have noticed that modern science cranks out an abundance of research attesting to the fact that staying healthy has never been easier. However, for many, it has never been more confusing. Medical studies frequently seem to contradict each other, adding frustration to an already perplexed consumer.
For example: Hormone replacement therapy is good for women. Then: HRT is bad for women. Now: Sometimes, it can be good in limited doses.
Another: Vitamin E may prolong your life. More recently: High doses of vitamin E may kill you.
So what’s a health-conscious person like you to believe?
For starters, be a proactive patient and talk to a doctor, preferably one who’s familiar with you and your health history. Instead of jumping on a trendy bandwagon, get your health care practitioner’s opinion and interpretation of the latest medical research, and ask if any of the new information can benefit to you.
Most doctors will tell you not to wait for someone else to tell you that something’s wrong. Pay attention to your health. Be aware of what foods you eat. Get the weight off. And exercise.
It’s also important to “know your numbers”. Know your blood pressure; total cholesterol; good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol levels. Get screened for diabetes and get a colonoscopy when you reach the age of 50.
Anther suggestion for becoming a more responsible individual is participating in a clinical trial. The medical profession can only get better treatments to market if there are more studies to test them. It’s certainly a win-win situation for you as a patient. You’ll receive good dietary advice, good follow-up care and will have an opportunity of getting the medication being tested.
It’s interesting to note that a growing number of studies today are “crossover” studies, in which the patient may get the placebo for the first half of the study, but will be assured of getting the real medication for at least the second half of the trial. To find a trial that you may be eligible for, ask your physician or contact the National Institutes of Health.
Enough can’t be said about this next suggestion: Get frequent cardiovascular exercise!
Hey! It’s called physical activity, it’s free and it’s been tested repeatedly and always comes out showing health benefits. Even if you’re a smoker, diabetic or are overweight, doing something as simple as twenty minutes of brisk walking several times a week can help keep you healthier. It will encourage a smoker to quit, help bring diabetes under control, and move a person in the direction of losing weight.
Cardio exercise reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and bad cholesterol, raises good cholesterol, fights osteoporosis, induces weight loss, improves bowel regularity and is a natural and non-addictive sleep aid. It also lowers blood sugar, reduces joint stiffness, improves mental alertness and is a mild antidepressant. Plus, when performed regularly, three to five times a week, cardio exercise reduces your long-term risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Another suggestion: Eat more fiber. There. It’s out in the open. If everyone had a half-cup of a high-fiber cereal, every day, it would take care of most individuals – gastrointestinal problems. The average adult needs about 25 grams of fiber a day, but most of us get a measly 12 grams. You can’t get as much fiber as you need based on just fruits and vegetables. In Texas and the rest of the United States, there isn’t enough fiber available to us, since all the fiber is milled out of breads and other foods. Gastrointestinal problems that can result from not consuming enough fiber include constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids and diverticulosis.
Now that we’ve taken care of your inside, time to take care of your outside. You can start by hydrating and protecting your skin.
The skin is the largest organ of the body and protects everything else inside, so it’s important to hydrate it both inside and out and to protect it. It’s recommended that you drink six to eight glasses of water a day and use a topical moisturizer on the skin, focusing on those areas that are most exposed, including the face, neck, hands, arms and legs.
For the face, try exfoliating with a topical, retinoid-like product to help peel off the outer layer of skin. And don’t forget a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB protection) sunscreen with an SPF of at

Make Health Habits Part Of Your Home-Business Job
by Michael D. Hume, M.S.
When you get up every weekday and go to work in an office somewhere, a big part of your daily (and weekly) routine is decided for you. The traditional “job,” where you trade time for money, almost always includes the notion of “regular business hours.” In a sense, you get paid for being at a certain place during certain hours of certain days; whether or not you get anything done is more of a qualitative factor (which may determine how long your employer is willing to continue the time-for-money arrangement).
I would argue that it’s a lot easier to develop and maintain good health habits when you are forced into a routine, like that demanded by the traditional office job. If you know you have to be in the office by a certain hour, you can reverse-engineer your morning to get up early enough to work out and shower before you hit the road… and after a few days, that just becomes part of your routine (and the energy you expend in your workouts comes back multi-fold). It’s easier to manage a nutrition routine, too, when the rest of the routine is already set. You know when you’re going to get breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner, so the only thing left is to create the conditions where your choices are healthy (at least most of the time). And it’s easy enough to plan out the water you drink, the supplements you take, and the sleep you can get.
These days, more and more sharp people are opting out of the traditional job (or have lost their job), and are starting great internet businesses they can operate from home. These entrepreneurs realize many advantages. They’re no longer paid to sit in a certain chair at certain times, but for what actions they take to build their business – which usually takes much less time out of each day. Though they can take their business on the road any time they like, they are free from the forced daily commute. But some entrepreneurs struggle with creating a healthy routine when they suddenly become the master of their schedule every day.
Here are some tips on creating a healthy routine around five key daily vitality habits (I remember them with the acronym “NEWSS”):
Nutrition.
You used to have to get up early and pack your celery sticks for that afternoon snack, as well as the supplements you’ll take at certain times throughout the day. Now, you are free to hang out in your home office, mere steps from the kitchen where all sorts of munchies are kept (some less healthy than others). So make a plan that copies your former routine to the extent you can. You might actually want to take that baggie of celery into your home office and, just like with your old job, leave them until the afternoon break. You used to eat out for lunch? Maybe you still can… but if it’s now harder to get a healthy salad from a quick nearby lunch spot, think about making a week’s worth of nice salads that you will enjoy at your determined lunchtime throughout the week. I actually plan my work in order to take my lunch break at a certain time each afternoon while watching a favorite news program, and I’ve prepared a quick lunch I can grab out of the fridge before I head to the TV room. And if you used to take a healthy energy supplement at afternoon break time, it’s easy enough to keep that part of your old routine… just have what you need in your home office, so you don’t end up scrounging around in the tempting kitchen.
Exercise.
This is an easier habit to keep for some home entrepreneurs than for others. For some, the exercise routine they established blended with (and might have been dictated by) their commute to or from work. Maybe your old job made it easy to stop at the gym on the way to work (or on the way home, though studies show your workout is up to three times more effective if you do it first thing). In fact, you might have had a gym and locker room located right there in the basement of your old office building. Now, you have to create a new routine. Realize, by the way, that it’s very good to change-up the old workout routine from time to time… your body gets more out of it. My suggestion is to set up a system that permits you to roll out of bed and do some exercise before you hit the computer. You might take up running in your neighborhood. You might have a local gym where a membership makes sense. Or it might be wise to invest in some home exercise equipment to permit you to replicate the old gym-in-the-basement routine you used to enjoy. Whatever you decide upon, make sure it’s a type of exercise you enjoy enough to keep up in a disciplined way… and that isn’t
The Second Half of My Life-after Wls I Am Now in Charge of Fulfilling My Destiny
The Second Half of My Life-after Wls I Am Now in Charge of Fulfilling My Destiny
Have you ever wondered where destiny would lead you? Have you ever pondered whether the road you are taking would lead to fulfillment and happiness? Unlike so many of my friends and family, I have always had the sure knowledge of what was expected of me.
It was under a shade tree surrounded by my teddy bears and dolls that it came to me- I would have six children, write books that would help families, have the opportunity to speak and teach all over the world, and I would live to be 97 years old. That is pretty heavy stuff for a six year old.
I shared this epiphany with my mother, and she never doubted the message. She continued to encourage and support me through every milestone until she died in my arms at age 93. Even while nurturing my family of six children and following my husband’s military career, I was gathering the skills to prepare me to “do my own thing.” When my children were grown and my parents were gone, I realized that the portion of my life devoted to care-giving and nurturing of my family was complete.
I had 40 years of productive time left on this earth to accomplish all I had set forth to do. However, after carrying so much physical weight on my body for years, I was facing inevitable diabetes and arthritis. My future looked like pain, wheel chairs and doctor’s offices. Unless I took action, medical complications would curtail me from fulfilling my destiny.
I approached this issue as I have the many books I have written. I investigated “one more diet” that I could live with for the rest of my life. I interviewed over 100 men and women across the country that had tried the same diets that didn’t work before finally finding a method that proved successful. My mind was made up. I chose gastric bypass surgery as a one-time solution. On July 30, 2002, I underwent a procedure called laparoscopic Roux-en-Y. This surgery creates a small stomach pouch which holds less than a cup of food. A section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch that absorbs less food than before. Most patients lose over half their excess weight in the first year and a half. Since my operation, I have lost 115 pounds. This is equivalent to the combined weight of my three granddaughters, Amanda, Lexi and Melissa!
For the first time in years, I feel normal and in control when making food choices. Now I am able to enjoy life to the fullest and have the energy and stamina required helping other families raise their standard of living through my books and workshops. Finally, my spirit and body are in sync and I am ready to go forward. I am able to concentrate on my spirit’s promptings during yoga because I am no longer concerned with whether my body will be able to balance, bend or straighten up. For me, this option was a success. It gave me the ability to concentrate again on my writing, and to feel confident when I facilitate workshops or speak to groups. Yes, I have met my goal of being an international speaker and writer!
To travel, teach, and fulfill my destiny I must be a woman of strength, and I must maintain that spirit and energy for the rest of my life. We each create our own reality by our thoughts, actions and belief systems. Hopefully that belief system will include guardian angels and a success team who will guide and assist us in our journey.
I have an obligation to that little girl under the shade tree who understood her life’s purpose half a life time ago. The message that was shared with me and I now share with my children, my grandchildren, and the families that I work with is to listen carefully to the still small voice within that tells us we are important and have something of value to share with the world. The time to share your unique gift may not be now, but it will be someday and so always be in the process of becoming, learning and growing. Be open to possibilities that life and the angels have in store for you, and you will find the right road to fulfillment of your destiny.

Can a charge of domestic violence injury to property be dismissed?
Question by kj78us: Can a charge of domestic violence injury to property be dismissed?
I’m being charged with domestic violence injury to property. my current lawyer doesn’t advise to go to trial, reasons being that in the police report I told them I put a hole in the wall, and this is the only evidence. And there’s no witness.
My question what is the possibility to get the case dismissed?
(The DA has offered an 1 year deferred judgement with 36 hour anger management, and this offer is exactly the same the 1st time when I went to the public hearing by my self).
Thank you very much for answering this question for me.
