Locked Up for Eating Too Much: The Diary of a Food Addict in Rehab

At age 23, Debbie Danowski was imprisoned by food addiction. Years of stuffing her feelings by ingesting endless quantities of ice cream, potato chips, candy, and burgers left Danowski feeling isolated, inadequate, deceptive, and unlovable. Liberation came only after Danowski enrolled in a six-week inpatient treatment program for food addiction. There, as she learned about her physiological addiction to sugar and flour, Danowski came to recognize her deeper, unmet cravings for love and self-acce

Self control…make the decision that food is not going to control you, you are going to control it.

Don’t binge…when you prepare food, prepare only 1 serving, eat that and be done. Don’t cook multiple servings and eat them all, don’t eat chips or whatever-it-is right out of the bag until you are stuffed…measure out 1 portion, and put the rest away.

Drink lots of water…it’s filling.

Do something to distract yourself…go for a walk, get on the computer…whatever takes your mind off food.

Look at the clothes in your closet that are a bit too small…think about how much happier you will be when you fit comfortably into those clothes, and how you don’t get that same pleasure from a big meal (no matter how good it tastes).

Take control of your actions and choices. DECIDE you are going to do it…and then do it…

That’s what works for me…i can wish and half heartedly try…and moan and groan about my weight…but bottom line is when I really decide I’m sick of the number on the scales and sick of all my cute clothes not fitting anymore, I take action to change it…and I always succeed.

How do I break the chain of yo-yo dieting? This is a question asked by millions of individuals around the globe. Yo yo dieting can lead to misery and frustration and have a variety damaging health implications for people who discover themselves caught in its trap. Yo-yo dieting or weight cycling is characterised by the constant loss and gain of weight through dieting. The phrase was originally coined by Kelly D Brownell of Yale University to explain losses of weight that are then regained.Health implications of yo-yo dieting can include loss of muscle bulk and bone density, fatigue, headaches, low thyroid symptoms and increased rates of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. The cycle of yo yo dieting goes like this. Firstly a low calorie diet is undertaken which while at first successful in losing weight has the effect of lowering the metabolic rate. Secondly as a conventional diet is resumed the body stores this food away as fat as it feels that it has been deprived of the calories it needs to function correctly. With a lowered metabolism calories are also harder to burn off. The consequence of this is that any weight lost is quickly regained and a dieter may well finish up weighing more than before the diet began. Weighing the same or more than earlier than the first diet began the dieter begins a different diet and the cycle therefore continues. There is no magic bullet solution to the predicament of yo yo dieting. Instead a long term strategy of healthy eating and exercising is necessary. First of all keep away from diets that guarantee quick weight loss and quick fix solutions. Aim for a gradual weight loss of 2-3 pounds per week, this is a rate that can be sustained in the long term. Make certain that you execute lots of training. Exercise increases the metabolic rate and lean tissue mass both of which enable calories to be burnt more efficiently. To free the slim you forever and to drop a dress size fast it is crucial to concentrate on 3 things: having a healthy balanced diet, doing regular exercise and breaking bad eating habits. Comfort eating can really hamper any weight loss attempt and it is imperative to bring it under control if you plan to lose weight. How can I control comfort eating? Hypnosis weight loss works by breaking bad eating habits and forming brand new ones in their place and is one of the finest ways of dealing with comfort and emotional eating. If you would like to look and feel good the time to start losing weight is straight away. There is no cause to put it off and the longer you do the harder it will be. If you think I need to lose weight now then what are you waiting for?

Perhaps you might find Overeaters Anonymous a good support group. They approach overeating in the same manner as Alcoholics Anonymous. They use the same tools and meeting format as AA. And, it doesn’t cost anything.

Bad Eating Habit??

Question by Cnat S: Bad Eating Habit??
I have a bad habit of eating or looking for something to eat when I’m bored. I usually end up with crackers or something that’s not quite junk food, but sometimes I can tell that my body’s not as happy as it would’ve been without the extra food. I would really like to break this habit, so… any advice?
