Q&A: Help staying focused for homework!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question by peace: Help staying focused for homework!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to have a lot of homework each night next year because of my 3 AP (Advanced Placement) classes. I have become addicted to youtube and the internet in general, but I need my laptop for my classes next year, so I feel trapped.

I always promise myself I won’t go on youtube, and that I will focus on my work, but it never works. My question is: how can I focus and avoid all this procrastination on the internet, so i can finish my homework earlier?

Best answer:

Answer by Kim
Award yourself for not becoming distracted by the internet. In general, one shouldn’t study for long periods of time, so take little 5 minute breaks and stop by the website. If you find that you have spent more than 5 minutes on that website, walk away and breathe. Talk yourself into getting back into the groove of doing some more work.

Personally, I find it really helpful to have a study buddy with me. If I catch myself becoming distracted by things, my study buddy will snap me out of it. After we’re both done studying, we treat ourselves to a nice shopping trip or to some ice cream. I think this really helps because of the idea of positive reinforcement. Usually, when an action is followed by a reward, your mind will learn to turn it into a habit.

Do Just ONE Thing While On Holiday To Ensure You Come Back Motivated, Refreshed and Focused

Do Just ONE Thing While On Holiday To Ensure You Come Back Motivated, Refreshed and Focused

Are you a workaholic and when almost burnt out you take a holiday, hoping to rekindle that motivation and restore the focus you need, but when you get back to work you find that the drive and energy levels are significantly lacking?

Or maybe you work hard with one of your key goals being a well earned break and expect that you will return to work well rested and raring to go only to find that when you return, the reality is that you struggle to get back the motivation you had or hoped that a holiday might revive?

Are you on a weight loss diet and decide to take a holiday but with the holiday comes non diet friendly food and plenty of it?

I find that unless I put some fundamental steps into place when embarking on a break from work or any other plan or program I have in place, then it will take more energy and effort to pick up where I left off and take much longer to get back on track. The fact is, more often I am looking to have my holiday increase my motivation, focus and drive to have me build my business and achieve more in all areas of my life.

There is one significant but simple and enjoyable exercise that can make all the difference to not only the return back to the ‘real’ world, but also make your holiday even more pleasurable.

And the key is…?

* Read, read and read some more

It is usual to read a good novel or loads of trashy magazines whilst on holiday, however try changing the type of reading material and reap the rewards and benefits – you will really notice the difference.

There is an abundance of great books for you to read while on holiday, which will keep you motivated and increase your energy for when you return to your normal routine.

These books can be in the form of personal development, personal growth and self help style books or autobiographies by those who have already achieved great things in their lives. There are so many fantastic authors out there who have written some really inspirational stories and those with proven ideas and strategies ready to put into place. They will have you inspired with ideas, skills and tactics you can use every single day. I am sure you will find this a welcome change to the normal holiday reading.

You don’t necessarily have to buy these personal growth books, although it is a really good idea to have them on hand so you can complete any exercises or assignments that may be of huge value. You can always go to your local library and check out their resources. Most libraries either have or have access to, many great books of this nature. If you are not sure on what is available or where to find what is available, just ask. Librarians are always ready to lend a hand and love to assist in finding just the right books.

Next time you take a break, even it is for only a few days, try starting and ending each day by reading a few pages or even a chapter or two about how someone else became successful and how they took their life to the next level. Or maybe read about a new approach to personal growth and development that will fill you with enthusiasm.

Return home really refreshed and revitalized with new life skill ideas and strategies to achieve and focus on just what you want out of life.

You may also like to consider what else you can do on holiday that will make the transition back to your normal day to day routine easier and quicker. How about writing a fun journal about your holiday or maybe just life in general? It can be a good time to embark on tracking your thoughts, desires and aspirations. Think about what might work for you.

Make this part of your next holiday and check out the difference when you return.

Focused and Effective Coaching

Focused and Effective Coaching

I read a couple of books lately that have really inspired me. One is The Jackrabbit Factor by Leslie Householder. This is a great story about a guy who is depressed about his life as he is dealing with the very common, difficult situations we all experience at some point. He finds himself in a strange sort of dreamland where people are scrambling around in what appears to be the “rat race” of life, trying to collect little brown paper bags filled with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Then the main character observes the people who are “successful” and sees that they are carrying rabbits and not sandwiches. He goes through the rest of his little journey learning how to catch rabbits and â?? even better â?? how to attract them so they jump right into his lap.

Yeah, it seemed a little silly to me too, which is why I think I liked the book. The author took everyday challenges and turned them into unrelated set of analogies. PB&J sandwiches in a brown paper bag were the equivalent of the “thing” we chase every day in order to feel successful, and the rabbits symbolized the real prize of success.

What was the importance of The Jackrabbit Factor to me?

The simple message reminded me to focus on attracting what I really want. Opportunities are all around, and I have to be in a mindset of attraction. I have to focus on seeing what is possible, believing that whatever it is I want can happen, and then taking the actions that are appropriate for the task be easy and effortless. Also, I was reminded of the importance of being clear and specific in what I want. The clearer and more specific I am, the easier it is to determine the appropriate actions.

Itâ??s funny, really, the way we get so set in our programming that says, “I have to work hard,” or “success doesnâ??t come easily,” when all around us there is overwhelming evidence that hard work and success arenâ??t always linked together. I mean, there are a lot of people who work hard and theyâ??re not wealthy. Of course, there is a great argument for working hard, but really itâ??s about working smart: doing the right things, not just anything. I really do see that for those people who have hit the jackpot of success, the reality is they love what they do. They put in a lot of hours (aka: hard work), but they are filled with passion about the work they are doing. That seems less like work and more like dedication to me.

I guess the big lesson that I took away from this book is that itâ??s all in the mindset, and mindset builds momentum, either positive or negative. Have a negative mindset and the negativity builds up. Have a positive mindset and the positive results accumulate. If Iâ??m expecting rabbits to be impossible to catch, chances are I wonâ??t be looking for or accepting the easy way, but if I know, trust, and believe that thereâ??s a way to have an overwhelming abundance of rabbits following everywhere I go, then at least Iâ??ll be open for the opportunity should it present itself. I think itâ??s at least worth a shot.

J

P.S. For the past few months Iâ??ve been practicing “attracting rabbits.” No, not real rabbits, but what the rabbits represent. All I can say is that itâ??s working way better than the fear and negativity I was wrestling with before.

J Itâ??s been really fun and Iâ??ve even had some jump right into my lap. Want to hear??? Stay tuned and Iâ??ll tell you all about it.
